So, my photo "Welcoming" won the grand prize of the 2012 Fox Cities Magazine Photo Contest, and it's also on the cover of this month's issue! I'm very proud and flattered that they would choose my work.

I also have a neutral density filter that reduces the light coming into the camera by 1000x (ND 3.0), which will allow really long exposures, so that should help make some great light trails of traffic at night. I have a few ideas on where to shoot in the downtown area, but there's one concept I have seen done by a photographer in Singapore on 500px.com, and I think it might be interesting to try it out, but it's all about location. I'm excited to keep exploring and to try it all out...

As the fall was coming to an end, I decided to go for a sunrise walk in a local park, to take in the scenery. Being November, it was about 41 degrees outside, and much of the ground was covered in frost. I had watched the sunrise and took in the landscape of fallen leaves.
This photo was actually somewhat challenging to take. First, I had to lie on the cold (and wet) leaves. Secondly, there was a bit of a cold breeze that morning, so I had to wait until the leaves were still to take the shot. To help, I actually had a small 2 inch tripod that I used to steady the camera. I used a wide aperture of f3.2 to allow a fast shutter speed and a brokeh effect with the background to keep the focus on the leaf.
I really enjoy this photo because of the way the sunlight exposes the circulatory system of the leaf, and the fractal pattern it makes. Light can sometimes open up a whole new world...
]]>I was touring Chicago one weekend with a few friends of mine, just walking around the town and taking in the sights on a balmy July day. I usually keep an eye out for interesting graffitti because it can be so interesting.
While waiting to cross at a light, I noticed this scene on the lamppost. I only had about 20 seconds to get my settings right (I chose to use aperature priority mode because I didn't have time for manual), compose, and take the shot, so it was challengng and excitng to work under a little pressure. I chose use a wide aperture and focused directly on the sticker.
To me, this photo is somewhat ironic. After doing some research, the person on the sticker, Gilbere Forte, is a music artist of some reknown. It seems ironic then that his mouth is the part of the sticker that is destroyed, almost as if he is being silenced for some reason. Also interesting is the Anarchy symbol to the left under the sticker...I don't know quite what to make of that!
